Caring For Pets In The Aftermath of Katrina

If you're like me, you may have a dog or two, or a couple of cats...or a horse. Animals love us unconditionally and we love them and care for them. Thru the hurricane, many pets were separated from the owners. Rescue units were only prepared to take the human beings and were snowed under with that. There have been some heartbreaking pictures of the pets who are left without food, shelter, and love. They are lost and confused.

I called our local vet for advice on how to send money in there to a reputable place who is making an effort to rescue the pets and give them shelter until they can be "found" again by their human families. If you're like me, you have to do something to help them too.

Here's the address. It is the Louisiana State School of Veterinary Medicine. They have a website that will tell you all about their efforts. www.vetmed.lsu.edu/#DONATIONS

Or you can send a check payable to LVMA Dr. Walter J. Ernst Veterinary Memorial Fund Foundation (write Katrina Fund on the memo line), address LVMA, 8550 United Plaza Blvd, Ste 1001, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Tenderhearted,
